DJ Espionage’s musical style reflects his eclectic influences—high-modernist integral serialism to funk-soul fusion to Arabic epic poetry to 80s hair metal—all distilled down to pure, crystalline minimal tech house. He’s not limited to minimal tech house, instead combining disco, drum and bass, melodic techno, and funky house to create a new sound that the entire staff of Bedivere has been trying to name for the last year (the cool, composed what-is-this-electronic-crap manager suggested “jiggle step” and then resigned in shame. DJ Espionage never really had an interest in performing music, and is only getting into DJing because he heard too many lame playlists and wanted to engage in the “resurrection of sound” that are like him…beyond this world. He comes from a middle-class, suburban home, where he shuffled his way through the educational system without any major incidents and moved on to a nearby university to pursue a degree in marketing. His parents supported him through school, so he was able to buy cassettes and CDs when he liked and he could occasionally indulge in musical whims: he bought a Pioneer controller during a moment when he was fascinated with sampling technology, and not knowing it’s market value, sold it to a friend when he got bored with it. The same thing happened to a HP printer, poker table, PS4, and an over talkative pet bird. DJ Espionage used the funds from his lucrative pub business to buy all the top-of-the-line gear on a whim, which he may or may not be using in a month. Too impatient to learn through trial-and-error and observation, he purchased several “How to DJ” instructional video courses and soon after settled into Point Blank out of London to teach him all the bells and whistles. Considering he grew up in the Middle East, his musical influences have mostly been old and new European and American hits, handpicked Arabic, old school hip hop and R & B. His musical style is a hybrid mix of techno and funky house mostly chosen from whatever tracks show up on DJ charts, Beatport and the alike as well as what pops in his mind to be created and any tracks that his friends mention more than once. DJ Espionage doesn’t really know what he is up to next. He’s been digging the whole DJ thing and swinging from playing, producing, and expanding his plethora of techniques as “Master of the Decks”.”
